''Mid table mediocrity will be great for us this year''

Steady on Epsom, granted it won't be a disaster, but it will not in any shape or form be 'great' We should be targetting top 7/8.

Agree on the quality of the squad. I saw a list of the players and the length of contracts somewhere and most of the squad have at least 3 years still at the club, which is good news.

Re Fletcher, as good as it was to improve the squad up front, him NOT going out on loan was really important too. I am with you, he has something special about him and game time and confidence will only help his development. And getting kicked up in the air by Ginger occasionally in training.

With Burke, Cullen, Samuelson, Page, Dobson on loan there are some good young ones in the wings getting game time too.

Now up to the coaching staff to pull it all together.

Agree completely, I don't think anyone would be too unhappy at a 8th-11th finish. Given the players we need to settle in and the new stadium factor, which will take a while to get used to I think this is a year of consolidation for us which isn't a bad thing.

Looking at the squad dispassionately, look at the quality we have. Four quality full backs, midfield options of Payet, Lanzini, Antonio, Feghouli, Ayew and I really like the look of Fletcher. He's ready for first team action and I have a sneaky suspicion he and Zaza could really work well together, if we go with two up top.

My view on this window is that the squad has been strengthened but it remains to be seen whether the first team has improved.

Agree that the two players in every position will definitely help and although the club spent a record amount with only West Brom, Swansea, Sunderland, Stoke, Boro, Hull, Burnley, and Bournemouth spending less than us, I am not sure that the team will finish any higher than we did last season, as its so competitive.

Mid table mediocrity will be great for us this year, a good run in the cup and if we can really grow some of the youngsters whilst we adapt to the new 25k day trippers at the OS then hoping that next year is when we can really kick on.

Arbeloa is a fitness fanatic. See the YouTube interview with him joining. He does full triathlons in his spare time for fun. So, don't think fitness will be an issue. Just be match sharpness.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
The bottom line is the first XI are stronger and squad deeper with quality than last season when they are all fit.

Two quality full backs in each position, looks like Cresswell will have a fight on his hands to get his place back, these things are good for us. When did we last have four quality full backs?

Is it a sign of how far we have come that certain WHOers are not excited by the signing of an ex Real Madrid player with 56 caps for Spain.

Or are they just cunts?

Two players missing from the CONFIRMED IN.

At least one player in the CONFIRMED OUT is still at the club.

My god, Al should have been transferred out for these inaccuracies.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Lets hope Sackho buckles down, still think he is our best chance of goals despite other signings, not exciting me i have to admit but solid squad when FIT.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
So what's everyone's take on the window then?

My view is that we recruited great youth players for development, Arthur seems a cracking buy and after we got knocked out from the Europa cup we started having a proper window. Hoping for good things from Fernandez, but overall think we went for quantity not quality expecting to be in the Europe cup and filling the squad massively for that competition and now having to loan out youth players to compensate. Obviously clear we struggled to get a striker early enough, but in terms of the overall squad it is getting improved gradually.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Thankfully Sullivan and Slaven listen to the mob. It was clear that we needed strengthening at right back and striker after Ayew got injured. Slav said we didnt need to do anything a couple of weeks back before the Astra game. Its great we have an owner and manager willing to listen to the consensus opinion and act accordingly.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
arbeloa is a decent solid no risk signing, an experienced winner with a great cv, byram can learn a lot from him and at least we now have 2 proper right backs.
